I've not been paying the best attention here since the campaign for city council has been keeping me busy as has the new redistricting madness that popped up. I've testified twice to the Ohio Redistricting Commission, drawn my own proposed congressional redistricting map, and am likely going to be testifying again in October.

Wow. As clear, well-researched, and nuanced an article about a FOSS project controversy as one will ever see. @jrssnet and @arstechnica have done a huge service here. (It's really about MuseScore, btw, despite the headline's mention of "Audacity").Doug Whitfield likes this.

It's quite amazing how "Amazon" can refer to both a beautiful "thing" and a horrible, evil thing 😁

The "Four Seasons Total Landscaping" story is my favorite thing so far -- a gift that just keeps on giving. It's so bizarre: Trump practically screams aloud "I'm a slipshod grifter who can't even find competent people to handle my logistics", yet somehow his fans don't hear it.Doug Whitfield, Stephen Sekula likes this.

I can't remember where I read it, but meeting rooms dissapear as soon as the last person leaves the meeting, and so do passwords (https://jitsi.github.io/handbook/docs/faq#i-set-the-password-in-meeting-but-it-is-not-working-the-next-time)`so room name is avaliable for anyone to use it. That's why it's important to use a strong room name (https://jitsi.org/security/)

I hope you'll join me in supporting the National Emergency Library at the @InternetArchive (I just donated). Their expansion of access during the COVID-19 crisis is *exactly* the kind of experiment that needs doing right now.
https://archive.org/NEL
Some advocates of copyright restrictions are objecting to the National Emergency Library. They remind me a lot of those who objected to FDR's experimentation during the crisis of the Great Depression. I mean, if *now* is not the time for this experiment, when would be?
I wrote a piece about this for @QCO:
https://questioncopyright.org/support-the-national-emergency-library
TL;DR: When people are willing to give up *freedom of physical movement* and yet still think adjusting copyright restrictions -- even temporarily -- is out of bounds, then we have a collective failure of imagination.Doug Whitfield, Akari-chan likes this.
