P.S.- History is in the books, symbols for terrible things don't need to be prominently displayed.
@jankusanagi@datamost.com but the fact they did get displayed is in itself historical. In that respect, removing them is hiding the evidence of that crime. Simple removal and erasure is also a missed opportunity to recontextualize them, with plaques about the dark side of the history of the people and groups memorialized, and maybe statues of some of heroes who resisted them, or the people we know they harmed: https://www.history.com/news/the-father-of-modern-gynecology-performed-shocking-experiments-on-slaves
