The following problem seems to be a bug in the pump.io software itself. The problem has been reported to the developers of the software; they were able to duplicate the problem on another node. The bug only manifests in the web interface so the workaround for now it to follow people using another client. The web interface could then continue to be used normally once said person has been followed.
