Just because you’re small, doesn’t mean you don’t shine bright 🌟 The Whirlpool galaxy and its companion galaxy are merging. At the center of each galaxy is a supermassive black hole millions of times more massive than the Sun. Their intense gravities should cause that orbiting gas and dust to heat up and radiate, outshining all the stars in their galaxies — but they are being surpassed by a single neutron star. This is an incredibly dense nugget of material left over after a massive star explodes at the end of its life. Read more and shine bright:
