For a year or two Mozilla crashed a lot. The last year or two it's been very stable and I much prefer it to Chrome because of the extensions I use, because of how configurable it is and because of who controls the browser.

On the surface level though, and for casual use, they are very similar and that means market share begets market share through word of mouth network effects. Also some people need Flash (!) and then Chrome comes equipped out of the box.
