I posted something about this once privately, but I think we are at a point where going public makes sense.

For the last couple of months, I have been hosting a Quarantine #Music Chat. I am not going to post weekly topic updates here, but this week the topic is #netlabels, which seems like a topic that might interest people here.

THE DETAILS
The chats are at noon US Central (currently UTC-5). This is in part to accommodate both the US west coast and Viktor Van River in Kazakhstan.

Password: kazoo (although I am not sure this actually works...I think maybe the first one in the room can set a password and then if you leave the password is gone. It seems weird)...I feel like going public with a password will still help against bots. idk.

You do not need to join the facebook group to join the Sunday chats.

If you wish to vote for the weekly topic: https://www.facebook.com/groups/238069013921633/

Although many (though definitely not all) of the people in the group are CC Community Music Awards judges, the chat topics are not limited to Creative Commons music.

A DIFFERENT TIME?
We have had people in Japan and in Eastern Europe ask about a different time. I would love for someone to host a different time, so if noon on Sundays US Central does not work for you, you can use the Jitsi room we have and the facebook group, and people can pick the time they like. If someone wants to coordinate a time through Diaspora, go for it. Just don't pick something close to noon US Central. I can post the time to the facebook group in case others want to join.

WHEN WILL IT END?
I don’t know how long we will do this. The NBA starts back July 30. MLS is back July 8. European matches have already started back. There’s a “complete” list for sports at https://www.actionnetwork.com/news/updating-2020-sports-calendar-return-dates-major-events-coronavir...

Idk how much the chat crowd overlaps with the sports crowd. I know we have one MLB fan who is a regular attendee. Sports, I think, are much more TV-driven than music. If you want to listen to music at home, you can just go to Jamendo.com or blocSonic.com. You don’t need an event like sports do.

I suspect we will keep going as long as people are willing to show up. I suppose at some point we might have to change the name…

JULY!
I had originally planned to not attend in July, but my plans for July have changed some. I will definitely be out July 12. I will probably try to come on July 5 as I suspect attendance will be low due to holiday weekend.

THE CHATS ARE RECORDED
If you want to watch the previous recordings, you can do so at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLh1myyymGGQB2O3AJPPUKIkv0mlDWfiBh

There were a couple of weeks where we could not record for various reasons, but we shouldn’t run into either of those reasons using the new system.

All of the recordings are released under a CC BY license.

If you have any additional questions, please leave a comment.

I can't remember where I read it, but meeting rooms dissapear as soon as the last person leaves the meeting, and so do passwords (https://jitsi.github.io/handbook/docs/faq#i-set-the-password-in-meeting-but-it-is-not-working-the-next-time)`so room name is avaliable for anyone to use it. That's why it's important to use a strong room name (https://jitsi.org/security/)
