A friend had a good perspective on this. The interpretation of this as "aggression" is dependent on the human interpretation of the simulation.  If you call it a "still the hunger for apples" beam, is it still aggression? You give the program parameters to work within, and it optimizes for those parameters, but interpreting it as sinister is what drives headlines.

That said, of course when letting intelligences into the world it's important to consider what parameters you are giving them.
